Where and How to Apply for a Canadian Work Permit or Temporary Resident Viss (TRV)

The application process for Canadian Work Permits and Temporary Resident Visas (TRV) depends on your citizenship and specific requirements. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you navigate the process:

  1. Application Process for Temporary Resident Visa (TRV)

If you are from a country that requires a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), you must apply online through the official Canadian Immigration website and submit your application to the nearest Canadian Embassy in your country.

Key steps for TRV applications:

  • Submit online: Complete the application form and provide necessary documents online.
  • Biometric requirements: If biometrics are required for your country, you will receive a biometrics request letter once you submit your online application, it is your responsibility to schedule an appointment to submit your biometrics.
  • Medical examination: Depending on your filed of work and citizenship, a medical exam may be necessary. Complete it before submitting your application online or after receiving a request from Canadian immigration.
  • Processing times: Processing times vary based on the country you’re applying from. The process begins once your biometrics are submitted.

2. Work Permit Application at Port of Entry (POE)

If you do not require a TRV, you can apply for your work permit directly at the Port of Entry (POE) when entering Canada. Before travelling, you must obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA).

  • eTA application: The eTA links to your passport and allows entry into Canada.
  • Biometric submission: If biometrics are required, you will submit them in-person at the POE.
  • Medical examination: Like the TRV process, a medical exam may be required. You may need to complete it before entering Canada or upon request from an immigration officer once in Canada.

3. Tips to Ensure you Have a Seamless and Efficient Process:

  • Ensure that your biometrics and medical examination (if applicable) are completed on time to avoid delays in the process.
  • Keep track of processing times based on your location and specific requirements for a smooth application experience.
  • Double-check your application to make sure all details are accurate before submitting.
